Diagnostic Evaluations
Diagnostic evaluations test for a variety of concerns including Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Depression, Anxiety, Tourette Syndrome, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and other concerns. These evaluations can provide a diagnosis and/or identify strengths and weaknesses in psychological, psychiatric, cognitive, or neurodevelopmental conditions. They do not include academic or achievement testing.
Diagnostic evaluations can help clarify what an individual is experiencing and explain their behavioral presentation. Individuals who are in already treatment are often referred for a diagnostic evaluation in order to help their treating therapist or medical provider determine the best way to help them.
Psychoeducational Evaluations
Psychoeducational evaluations focus on learning disabilities in areas such as reading, writing, and math. These evaluations assess for dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, and other related learning/academic concerns. They include evaluation of cognitive (intelligence) and academic achievement. This evaluation can identify and diagnose learning disorders only; it does not cover other clinical conditions.
Psychoeducational evaluations can help explain why an individual has difficulty learning or performing academic or occupational tasks.
Autism Evaluations
Autism evaluations are performed when there are concerns related to development, communication, repetitive behaviors, social skills, or other indicators that an individual may have difficulty in similar areas. Autism evaluations often include the use of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS).
Second Opinion Evaluations
At times individuals and families are seeking someone to help further interpret prior evaluation results or expand on prior testing. Navesink Psychological Services provides second opinion consultations and further evaluation when helpful.
